A 1954 limited edition etching with aquatint on rag paper by listed Ukrainian-American artist Ben-Zion Weinman (1897 – 1987). The piece, titled Exodus 17:11 (Raising Moses’ Arms), originates as Plate XVI from the artist’s 1952 Biblical Themes series. The image depicts the Exodus story in which Aaron and Hur support Moses’ arms so that he can hold aloft the staff of God, allowing the Israelites to defeat the Amalekites in battle. The unframed work is signed in graphite to the lower right and numbered to the lower left as 134 out of an edition of 140. It includes a stamp to the verso that reads ‘This etching and aquatint was specially printed in 1954 from the original plate for members of the Print and Drawing Club of the Art Institute of Chicago.’. - to Fair; toning to paper, especially present to outer margins; curling and creasing to edges; stain near top left edge; staining and torn adhesive to verso; print is presented unframed.
