Large Handwoven Turkish "Herati" Area Kilim

Item Details

A Large handwoven Turkish area kilim. This wool rug features an allover herati pattern of palmettes, leaves, and flowers over a black field. The palette is blue-black, vermillion, sapphire, pale yellow, and rose. Framing the field are compound borders, including a samovar primary border incorporating boteh, stylized snippets of vine, diamonds and palmettes over vermillion. Selvedges are double overcast; the rug is hand-finished at one end and has knotted, tan wool warp fringe at the other.
