An original watercolor painting on wove paper by well-listed Israeli painter, printmaker, and sculptor Mordechai Avniel (1900 – 1989). The painting depicts an atmospheric landscape painted in fluid fields of navy, orange, brown, and ivory paint. It depicts rolling hills lining a wide, flat body of water that glows brightly. The painting is signed in brown to the lower left and is titled illegibly to the lower right. It is matted in white with gold tone lining and is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with a hanging wire and an artist’s biography attached to the verso. Avniel has works housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Israel Museum, the Smithsonian, and many more. Condition
- painting itself is in good condition. Frame is in poor condition; paper is stuck to adhesive residue to lower left corner of glass. Glass is separating from frame to upper edge. Light scuffing and spotty accretion across glass.
