An oil painting on canvas titled Summer Heat by Cincinnati artist Carolyn Zimmerman (American, 1903- ?), executed in 1972. Impressionistic style landscape rendered in cool tones of flat, wide brush strokes and soft layering of colors. Three prominent trees appear to the center of the composition with Lake Isabella in the background and a contiguous row of trees. Signed to the lower right. ‘Carolyn.’ Titled and dated to the verso. The canvas has been stretched over panel and remains unframed.
Carolyn Zimmerman was born in Walton, Indiana and became the wife of prominent Cincinnati artist Carl Zimmerman. She started her formal artistic training at the Cincinnati Art Academy and studied with French sculptor and painter Antoine Bourdelle as well as Madame Levy-Ginsborg in Paris. Zimmerman body of work primarily focuses on forested landscapes. Carolyn, along with her husband Carl Zimmerman, was a member of the Cincinnati School of Painters.
