An oil painting on canvas titled Two Tulips by painter Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904-1997). Depicted is a abstract still life scene with clear pitcher to the right and flower vase to the left with two red tulips. The dark, earthen toned background with black lattice work is contrasted by the white table cloth in the lower third of the composition. Signed to the lower right, ‘E. Yaeger.’ To the verso is a descriptive label from Cincinnati Art Galleries. Presented without glass, housed in a painted wood frame with beveled liner.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
