Hand-Knotted Northwest Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted northwest Persian area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is rendered in a palette of sapphire, peach, deep midnight blue, cream, and shades of brown. It begins with a large-scale hexagonal medallion grounded in sapphire and enclosing a stylized herati pattern. The medallion rests on a midnight blue herati field cornered with deep, wide spandrels, which are grounded in cream. Framing the field are three borders, including a primary border featuring a split-leaf meander pattern over sapphire. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
