Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Bijar Area Rug
Item Details
An antique Persian area rug. This wool rug, attributed to Afshari Bijar weavers, is hand-knotted in a palette of madder red, deep midnight blue, cream, and shades of brown. It begins with a hexagonal red lozenge, which rests on a midnight-blue field, both areas featuring a herati pattern characterized by prominent oak leaves. The field is framed by compound borders, including a meandering floral pattern with serrated vinework over cream. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with unbound ivory wool warp fringe; weft threads are made of wool and goat hair. Unlabeled.
