A signed aquatint on paper titled Henry by listed American artist Elizabeth Lentz Horter (1900-1985). This work features a man seated against a tree trunk with his legs cross and a pipe in his mouth. The identified sitter, Henry, was a close long-time friend of the Horters. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right; it is titled by hand in graphite to the lower left. Considering that the artist signed her work with her maiden name after her husband’s death, this work may have been created post 1940. A short biography of the artist from The Philadelphia Print Shop, Ltd. is adhered to the verso. With the top edge of the paper adhered to paper board, this work is presented under a transparent plastic sheet and off-white matting; it remains unframed.

Born in Philadelphia, Elizabeth Lentz Horter was known for her prints and watercolor paintings often featuring American genre and street scenes. She remained active in Philadelphia, taught at Temple University, and collected art with her husband Earl. Her work has been exhibited and collected by various institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Gallery of Art, and the Woodmere Art Gallery.

- print error in upper right corner, small section not inked; overall good conidition; minor accretion spots along edges of plate marks and in upper left area of print; stain present in lower right corner of paper; toning along right edge of paper; minor smudge marks throughout margins of paper; minor smudge marks throughout mat; minor wear along edges of mat; some handwriting present to paper board verso.
