Vintage Japanese Dry Brush Watercolor of Mt. Fuji

Item Details

An original vintage Japanese watercolor painted with dry brush techniques. The piece depicts Mt. Fuji rising behind a striated landscape painted in shades of navy, green, and yellow. An artist’s seal is stamped in red to the lower left. Many handwritten notes are visible to the verso, including that the piece is ‘from R. Hayashi, Rikugun Heiki Honsho, Tokyo’ and that the piece was ‘a gift from Capt. Robayashi’ and that it was ‘painted by a famous Japanese artist.’ The piece is presented behind glass in a black metal frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso.

Condition

- paper is quite yellowed. Light scratching to frame.
