19th-Century Aquatint Print "Battle of the Nile" after Thomas Whitcombe
Item Details
An early 19th-century aquatint print, titled Battle of the Nile, Aug.t 1st 1798, after an original painting by listed English maritime artist Thomas Whitcombe (1763-c. 1824). The print depicts an armada of ships on the water, and is marked to the lower left margin ‘Plate II.’ and ‘Painted by Whitcombe’. The right margin is marked ‘T. Sutherland sculp.t’. It is presented wit a white mat and glass in a stained wood frame with a hanging wire on the back.
