A Nancy Ford Cones (Lebenon, OH 1869-1962) sepia toned silver print titled The Haircut, signed, dated and copyrighted in the negative and mounted on board. The photograph taken by the Loveland, Ohio photographer illustrates a young gentleman grimaces uncomfortably as a woman trims his hair. Accompanied by the photograph is a catalogue dated 1981 from an exhibit at Walt Burton Galleries, Cincinnati, Ohio. Nancy Ford Cones (Ohio, 1869) studied in a photographic studio in Fostoria, Ohio at the age of twenty-five before moving to Lebanon, Ohio where she met James Cones who agreed to process her film. Her talent garnered the interest from notable Cincinnati families who commissioned her for portraits then by camera manufacturers in the early 20th century. Her work appeared in several magazine publications and was included in exhibits in San Fransisco, Boston and London. After her husband’s death in 1939, Nancy abandoned photography. Her work was kept intact in her Lebanon, OH home by her only daughter, Margaret.

Condition

The photograph is in good condition, the catalogue has been damaged by water and the bottom right corners are stuck together.
