Hand-Embroidered Crewel Work Area Rug and Runner

A selection of wool crewel work area rugs. The area rug and runner were both embroidered by hand using wool threads. They share a bright color palette of gold, ochre, mustard, umber, siena, taupe, and olive green with an off-white background. Each has a central medallion on a field with organic designs. The spandrels continue the floral theme as do the guard borders. The primary borders feature a lily and palmette design connected by vines. Unmarked.

Condition

- heavy staining on the backside of both rugs; has odor of cigarette and mothballs; could benefit from cleaning.
