Antique 19th-Century Framed English Needlepoint Embroidery on Silk

Item Details

An antique 19th-century English needlepoint embroidery. This circular piece incorporates embroidery and stumpwork techniques to depict a young lady in Regency-era dress, seated within a pastoral scene and playing the lute. The scene is surrounded by a floral wreath of roses, lilacs, tiger lilies, and glory-of-the-snow. It is set behind glass and a cream-toned mat within a square, gilt-toned frame with a wire to the verso for hanging. The gallery label to the verso reads "Newman Galleries, 1625 Walnut Street, Philadelphia."
