A hand-colored offset lithograph print on paper after an engraving by Alfred Lucas created after an 1880 work by listed British artist Samuel John Carter (1835 – 1892). The piece, titled Young Freebooters, depicts a group of four fox kits at the entrance of their den, which is covered in greenery and yellow flowers. The image is signed and dated in plate within the image to the lower right, with the title printed to the lower center. It also includes printed notations to the lower margin of ‘Painted by Samuel Carter’, ‘Engraved by Alfred Lucas’ and ‘Published by Old World Prints Ltd’. The print is double-matted in pale green under cream linen and presented under glass in a wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- nicks and wear to frame; wear to linen liner; frame joints are not fully flush.
