Chinese Porcelain Vase and Plates

Item Details

A set of Chinese porcelain vase and plates. This collection includes a fine white and blue plate decorated with five young boys playing outside with toy balls. The underside has a hand-painted Qianlong reign mark, however, the plate was likely produced during the Republic period (1912-1949). The second plate is finely painted with the Eighteen Arhats (十八羅漢), the original followers of the Buddha who followed the Eightfold Path and achieved the state of Nirvana. The lively portraits are rendered in shades of cobalt blue against a white ground. The underside is marked with a Guangxu reign mark. The plate appears to be of the period (1875-1908) or from the Republic period (1912-1949). Both plates are presented on carved hardwood stands. Also included is a lovely ‘double happiness’ urn. It is decorated with expansive vines, lotus blooms, and ‘double happiness’ symbols (囍 shuangxi). Unmarked, the vase is presented on a carved hardwood stand.
