Antique English Ceramic Transfer Pitchers
Item Details
A group of two black and white ceramic transferware pitchers. The taller creamware pitcher features a central design with scroll leaf motifs above and a caption below that reads, ‘Provision for the Convent, that precious load our Brother bears, will do more good than all our prayers.’ The second pearlware piece features a central design of a farm setting depicting a man and a woman watching a man playing an instrument in front of a grouping of animals. It is trimmed in a silver tone and bears writing to the reverse side that reads, ‘I do not know what man to trust, since man to man is so unjust; I’ve trust many to my sorrow, so pay to day I’ll trust tomorrow.’ They bear no maker’s marks.

- slight discoloration; small pitcher is chipped around rim.
