Item Details

A set of six framed hand-colored steel plate engravings after illustrations by John Leech for Gilbert Beckett’s 1851 book titled The Comic History of Rome. The illustrations depict different Roman historical events, each captioned to the bottom margin. Each engraving is presented matted under glass, set in a black frame with hanging wire to verso. The paper backing of one of the frames is hand marked, ‘Illustrated by Leech, the famous ’Punch’ artist, colored steel-engravings’.

- good, slight wear due to age
