Item Details
An original late-19th century oil painting on loose weave canvas by well-listed Cincinnati painter Thomas Corwin Lindsay (American, 1839 – 1907), titled Trespassing. The painting depicts a curious cow munching on a row of massive cabbage plants. The piece is completed in loose, painterly strokes that stand from the canvas’s surface with dramatic texture and layering. The painting is signed in black to the lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame with cast surface texture, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire attached to the verso. Thomas Corwin (T.C.) Lindsay, was born in Ohio in 1839. He displayed an interest in painting from an early age and took to the act of expression quite naturally. He studied in Dusseldorf, Germany in the 1860’s and would return to Cincinnati where he opened his own gallery. He is most well known as a painter of landscapes, animal subjects and portraits. His work can be found in many private collections and in the Cincinnati Museum of Art.
