An original pastel drawing on paperboard by an artist named Marie Miles. The drawing depicts a stunningly realistic portrait of the bust of a stunning young Victorian woman. She wears a white gown, a string of pearls, and a blue ribbon in her hair. Her porcelain skin beautifully contrasts the dark background she is set against. The drawing is signed and marked ‘6 1900’ to the upper right; this is curious, because a stamp for honorable mention for the ‘Exposition Universelle de 1855’ is visible to the verso, making the date of creation ambiguous. The drawing is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

Condition

- yellowing. light ripping, marking, and pinholes to edges and corners from previous framing. A few small scuffs and marks to drawing’s surface. Pastel does not seem to be entirely set.
