A Zsolnay ceramic bird figurine, Pécs, Hungary. Perched upon a branch is a blue colored bird hand painted with polychrome enamel decoration. To the underside is a cobalt mark.

Zsolnay Pottery was founded by Vilmos Zsolnay in Pécs, Hungary in 1853. Characterized by their Art Nouveau style pottery and figurines fired at high temperatures. Their trademark tower hallmark was not used until 1878, earlier pieces are unmarked. Introduced in 1893, many of the pieces appear with an ‘eosin’ glaze giving them a lustrous iridescent finish.
