Zsolnay Hand Painted Porcelain Dresser Accessories

A collection of five Zsolnay porcelain dresser accessories, Pécs, Hungary. Two small, octagonal lidded dresser boxes with hand painted and gilt decoration, marked to the underside of the bases with a green stamp. Heart shaped pin holder and ovular pin holder both with hand painted polychrome and gilt floral decoration, marked to underside with a blue stamp. A small, lobed vessel with floral motif, marked to the underside of the vase with a green stamp.

Zsolnay Pottery was founded by Vilmos Zsolnay in Pécs, Hungary in 1853. Characterized by their Art Nouveau style pottery and figurines fired at high temperatures. Their trademark tower hallmark was not used until 1878, earlier pieces are unmarked. Introduced in 1893, many of the pieces appear with an ‘eosin’ glaze giving them a lustrous iridescent finish.
