An original oil painting on canvas by listed German expressionist artist Peter Keil (born 1942.) The untitled work depicts an abstracted portrait against a yellow field, the figure is painted with blue skin, an orange nose, black eyes and bright red lips. Signed and dated in paint to lower right, painting is unframed. Back is marked ‘Peter Keil Berlin 85.’

Mentored initially by artist Otto Nagel in the Expressionist form, and as a metalworker artist at the University of Arts in Berlin, Keil’s style would undergo a series of noticeable transformations due to personal experiences and his developing passion for travel. This metamorphosis was first observed during the 1960s, and within a decade his spontaneous and exuberant signature style was established. Keil chooses flowers, portraits, cityscapes and landscapes as his preferred subjects. Alongside the occasional sculpture in steel and wood, he is also an experienced ceramicist
