A pair of 19th-century paint-embellished silver gelatin photographic portraits on board by listed German-born artist John N. Glogger (1830 – 1881); photographer is anonymous. These portraits depict a man and woman wearing traditional fine period attire. The woman is wearing a black dress and holding a red book in her lap. Each portrait is signed by the artist to the lower right; presented behind glass in matching antique gold tone, oval wood Victorian frames with molded floral details and wire for hanging.
Condition
- abrasions with paint loss to man’s suit, vest, and face; cloudy residue behind glass to areas over man’s suit and woman’s dress and hair; minor wear and nicks to frames; tears and cracking to backing paper.
