A Japanese cast iron inkwell and brush holder. The long handle opens to hold a brush used for calligraphy and ink wash painting. It is attached to a small footed vessel meant to hold ink. The piece is decorated with delicate vines and a fish motif. It is marked ‘28617’ to the interior of the lid.
