Kawayurá Tribal Mask

A Kawayurá tribal ceremonial mask. The mask features a woven, painted circular face, depicting a stylized image of an owl, with applied animal teeth, string and other materials. The mask has very long fringe, made of a dried grass fiber material, which is knotted where it joins the mask. The Kawayurá people come from the Xingu River Basin in Brazil. This mask is not signed or marked, but it comes with a tag from a dealer, marked ‘Casa do Amazonas’.
