19th-Century Fischer J. Hand Painted Ceramic Ewer

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic ewer, Budapest, Hungary. Having a pedestal base, round body, and ornate anthropomorphic figural handle. Hand painted polychrome enamel decoration with intricate floral motif and pink pastel color. Central medallions to either side of the body are reticulated and gilt. Marked to the underside with a black stamp.
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
