19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated Ceramic Floral Vase

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic vase, Budapest, Hungary. Hand-painted polychrome enamel and gilt decoration with a pinched scallop rom and ornately reticulated body with a floral motif. Marked to the underside with a black stamp.

Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.

- crazing present throughout; minor paint and gilt decoration loss.
