Antique Hand-Knotted Turkish Area Rug
Item Details
An antique Turkish area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of cream, rose, vermillion, midnight blue, mocha, tangerine, and cornsilk. It begins with a squared star medallion nestled inside of a large stepped pendant medallion, which is grounded in midnight blue and populated with palmettes, boteh, and flowers. These rest on a cream-colored lozenge, which, in turn, rests on a rose-colored field featuring stylized herati elements in the corners. The field is framed by three borders, including a split-leaf meandering primary border over mocha and two meandering carnation minor borders over cream. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with unbound wool warp fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
