19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated Ceramic Shell Console Bowl

A 19th-century Fischer J. large ceramic shell form console bowl, Budapest, Hungary. Having a shell form bowl with ivory colored ribs and ornate floral reticulation. Hand painted polychrome enamel and gilt decoration with floral motif throughout. The base is also a shell form. Marked to the underside of the footed base with a cobalt stamp and impressed mark.
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
