19th-Century Fischer J. Embossed Lidded Ewer

A 19th-century Fischer J. embossed ceramic ewer, Budapest, Hungary. Ivory colored glazed with embossed and gilt floral and butterfly motif throughout. Lidded top with applied floral medallions and handle. Having an elongated spout and shield form body with a reticulated shield form to either side on a stepped pedestal base. Cobalt stamp present to the underside with an impressed mark as well.
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
