19th-Century Fischer J. Ceramic Trumpet Vase

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic trumpet vase, Budapest, Hungary, ca. 1890. Appearing with a mottled brown glaze embossed white enamel and gilt decoration. Floral motif and decoration throughout with a pierced base and handles with reticulation to the collar. Impressed mark to the bottom, ‘Fischer J. Budapest 930.’
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
Condition
- one of the pierced side handles has been repaired back on and displays small chips and lines.
