Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique Persian Sarouk vase area rug. This semi-rectilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, midnight blue, pink, periwinkle, and ivory. The cranberry-colored field begins with a diamond medallion without an outline or contrasting ground color, the medallion featuring a quatrefoil of flowers, lancet leaves, and palmettes. It is surrounded by a mirrored pattern of stylized sprays of flowers, ferns, bouquets, and vases. The field is framed by three borders, including a stylized herati main border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with the nubs of wool warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. The rug is tagged with a washed out and unreadable fabric label.
