1801 London Sterling Silver Plates by Robert Sharp

A collection of antique sterling silver plates by Robert Sharp, London 1801. Collection includes twelve plates total. All plates feature a gadrooned edge with engraved crest that reads ‘honi soit qui mal y pense’ which translates to ‘May he be shamed who thinks badly of it’. This phrase is most commonly known from its use as the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter. Plates are marked on the bottom edge with the maker’s mark for Robert Sharp, the sterling standard lion, the crowned leopard for London, the date letter for 1801 and the Monarch mark for George III. As well as a later marks reading ’No’g 18’ g’. Total approximate sterling silver weight: 223.795 ozt.

Condition

minor surface wear including faint markings and minimal tarnishing. Consistent with age and use.
