A mixed media sculpture of a gold head by artist Frank Kowing (1944-2016). This work depicts a large, gold painted head with large ears and glasses. It is rendered with acrylic, wire, and other found items. It is unsigned.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
