Item Details
A Zsolnay ceramic dish with lobster figural, Pécs, Hungary, ca. 1930. Decorated with eosin and iridescent colored glazes. Marked to the underside with a Zsolnay stamp.
Zsolnay Pottery was founded by Vilmos Zsolnay in Pécs, Hungary in 1853. Characterized by their Art Nouveau style pottery and figurines fired at high temperatures. Their trademark tower hallmark was not used until 1878, earlier pieces are unmarked. Introduced in 1893, many of the pieces appear with an ‘eosin’ glaze giving them a lustrous iridescent finish.
