An oil painting on canvas of a figure study by listed artist Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904 – 1997). Depicted is a seated figure resting casually in a folding chair against a wall of fabric. Artist’s signature is to the lower right corner along with year of creation. Piece is presented as stretched canvas without frame or mat.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
