A carved wooden sculpture of a woman in prayer. This work features an angular woman with her hands in a praying gesture and her eyes closed; she wears long drapery and a veil over her head in the manner of the Virgin Mary. The figure rests on a round surface attached to a trapezoidal base. The work is marked ‘Paule’ in black ink to the underside. ‘Betty P’ is handwritten in ink on the figure’s back.

Condition

- handwriting on figure’s back; minor scratches, scuffs, and stains scattered throughout sculpture; some dust and residue collected in crevices.
