An assortment of ten sketches on paper by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997), created in various years including 1936, 1937, and 1956. A variety of mediums are featured in the collection including graphite, ink, conte crayon, charcoal, and watercolor. Drawings portrays still lifes, figural scenes, portraits, and narrative genre scenes. A drawing on onion paper features handwriting that reads ’for Grosse Pointe South High School. Many works are signed and several are dated by the artist. They are presented as a loose group without frames or mats.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
