An oil painting on canvas titled Still life with clock and fruit by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1932. This piece features a still life arrangement comprised of a feather duster, a tea cup, fruit, a water pitcher and a clock situated on a wooden surface. The work is portrayed in a post-impressionist style with vibrant colors, thick dark outlines, and an overall sense of flatness throughout the composition. It is signed and dated to the lower right. The initials of the artist ‘E.Y.’ are inscribed in black paint to the verso. Informational labels from Cincinnati Art Galleries LLC. are affixed to the verso. Presented in a gesso and gilt frame with an elaborate floral relief design.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
