Item Details

A charcoal drawing on paper of a female nude by well-listed artist Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904-1997), executed in 1983. The woman appears in a seated position from the front with soft features, sketchy lines and delicate sfumato. She leans on a small surface reading from a book. Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
