An oil painting on canvas portrait of a female nude by well-listed Detroit painter Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904-1997), executed in 1941. Fauvist style three-quarter portrait of a woman against a simple background of flat tones. Signed and dated to the lower left, ‘Edgar Yaeger 1941.’ The work remains unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
