A 1981 limited edition woodblock print on paper of two owls by well-listed artist Iwao Akiyama (秋山巌, Japanese, 1921-2014). Depicted are two abstracted owl figures. Signed to the lower right and titled to the center. Dated and numbered edition 115 of 200 to the lower left. to the verso is a descriptive label from Uchida Art Co., Japan. Presented with a red and off-white matting, under glass, and housed in a black composite frame.

Iwao Akiyama was born in Takeda, Ōita Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu in 1921. He studied under Shiko Manukata and Teijiro Fuse at the Pacific Art Institute. Known for his distinct owl woodblocks, Akiyama belonged to the Fine Artist Association of Japan, the Pacific Art Club, and the Woodblock group ‘Saku.’ Today, his works can be found in private collections around the world and in institutions such as the National Museum of England, National Art Museum in Victoria, and the Museum of Japanese Art in Haifa, Israel.
