F. B. Smithburn Ink Drawing on Paper of a Flower

An ink drawing on paper of a flower by Florence Bartley Smithburn (Indiana, 1904 – 1989). The work depicts a stylized flower with foliage. To the bottom right the work is stamped with the artist estate mark. The drawing is presented on a white mat with a cellophane sleeve.

Florence Bartley Smithburn studied art at the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. She exhibited throughout her native state as early as 1925 then as her popularity grew, her watercolors and drawings were regularly included in major exhibitions in Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Atlanta and elsewhere. Smithburn was a full member of the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana Art Association and the Chicago Institute of Art. She was known for her watercolor landscapes.

Condition

- some wear to the edges of the mat; cellophane is ripped and loose; some wear to the edges of the paper; discoloration throughout the paper.
