An etching on paper titled The Sea Serpent after an original painting by listed American artist Elihu Vedder (1836-1923) etched by S.A. Schoff. This print features a large obscured serpent slithering through a plane of sand dunes. It is signed and titled in plate to the lower margin and is accompanied by an artist bio. This print is presented matted and wrapped in acetate.

Born in New York, Elihu Vedder developed his career as a Symbolist artist influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites. He was known for his dream-like depictions of romantic scenes and mythological subjects. Among his friends were writers and artists including Walt Whitman, Herman Melville and William Morris Hunt. His work has been displayed by numerous art institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to name a few.
