A charcoal drawing on paper of an abstract landscape titled House Hidden Between Two Trees by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), created in 1978. This work features a simplified landscape with a shack, portrayed with shades of gray and heavily outlined geometric shapes. The work is signed to the verso of the paper but the signature is concealed by the foam board backing. Handwriting to the verso reads “Edgar Hatten signed verso, ‘House Hiddewn Between Two Trees’, 1978’. The work is presented under a white mat and wrapped in acetate.
Edgar Hatten is known for his portrayals of abstract still-lifes and landscapes with a focus on expressing mood. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He taught at Swinbourne College in Australia, East Los Angeles College, and Citrus College.
