Louis XV- Style Tortoise Shell Bombe Clock
Item Details
An Italian eight-day, French Louis XV – style boulle clock, finely veneered in tortoiseshell, with chiseled, scrolling inlay, brass mounts, acanthus leaf accents. The Bombe shaped case is embellished with gilt acanthus leaf patterns, over a speckled red and black tortoiseshell veneer, framed in an ebonized veneer. The circular dial is in Roman numerals, set with cut metal black hands, in scrolling designs. The trunk door has a glazed central aperture, revealing a brass pendulum framed in the brass acanthus leaf mounts. This long case is fitted with a Howard Millard Lock, hour/half hour strike cable driven movement, model no. 622-683. Information card with the clock reads ‘Carletto Monzio Compagnoni, made at Boulle, real tortoise shell’.
Condition
Loss of veneer on front and side edges of door. Not tested. EBTH was unable to determine the working condition of this item, it is being sold ‘as-is.’ Refunds based on the working condition of the item will not be issued
