A charcoal drawing on paper titled Trees by American/Australian artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), dated 1978. This drawing depicts a partially abstract landscape comprised of multiple trees rendered with contrasting shadows. This piece is unsigned by the artist. To the verso, artist’s name, title, and date are inscribed in graphite. Presented within a foam backing and off-white matting, wrapped in an acetate protective cover.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
