An original oil painting on paper titled Female by American/Australian artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), created in 1982. This painting depicts an abstract composition of a reclining female figure rendered with stippled brushstrokes in warm hues. To the verso, artist’s name, date, and title are inscribed in graphite. This painting is presented matted on a foam backing and wrapped in acetate. The composition is accompanied by an exhibition brochure about the artist from the Cincinnati Art Galleries.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
