An oil painting on board by American/Australian artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990). This painting features a vague composition of a cloaked person leaning over what seems to be a balcony. It is rendered with stippled oil application in low relief within bright blue and brown tonalities. It is unsigned and inscribed to the verso in graphite, ‘Edgar Hatten, unsigned.’ This work is matted in white and covered in acetate for safe keeping. It is unframed.
Edgar Hatten is known for his portrayals of abstract still-lifes and landscapes, with a focus on expressing mood. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He taught at Swinbourne College in Australia, East Los Angeles College, and Citrus College.
