An oil painting on paper by American/Australian artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990). This painting depicts a vague composition of a guitar and a piece of fruit on a table. It is rendered with stippled oil application within primary and secondary tonalities. It is unsigned and inscribed to the verso in graphite, ‘Edgar Hatten, unsigned.’ This work is matted in white and covered in acetate for safe keeping. It is unframed.
Edgar Hatten is known for his portrayals of abstract still-lifes and landscapes, with a focus on expressing mood. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He taught at Swinbourne College in Australia, East Los Angeles College, and Citrus College.
